In 2023, a Community Vitality Grant of $65,000 was awarded to Strong Start for their Letters, Sounds and Words program, a project that acts as a literacy intervention for young children to develop foundational reading skills. Over two years, the program aimed to address gaps in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across its educational materials, ensuring that all children and volunteers were represented.

WeBridge Community Services’ 2025 Summer Camp offered Black children and youth in London a vibrant, culturally grounded space to learn, grow, and thrive. Supported by a $9,000 grant from London Community Foundation, the four‑week program was intentionally designed around the needs of African, Black, and Caribbean children, and includes programming on mental wellness education, creative arts, cultural exploration, and leadership development. 115 campers participated, supported by trained staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Dreams Come True Music Studio is an all-ages, all-abilities, musical theatre group that believes that anything is possible when you embrace diversity, promote acceptance, and celebrate people’s unique talents and abilities.
Following a grant to Dreams Come True from the Ken Fleet Conducting Scholarship Fund via the I Have Resolve Foundation in June, we were invited to see the group rehearsing for their upcoming performances of Frozen Jr at Siloam United Church, December 13.The group uses funds for all costs associated with performances and musicals, from licensing, music, costumes, props, sound, technology…the list goes on.

Named in honour of London Community Foundation’s founder, the J. Allyn Taylor Community Service Award is presented to a grade 10-12 student who exhibits outstanding service to and is actively involved in leadership activities in their community. The recipient receives an award of $2,500 towards their post-secondary education and a $500 grant to a charity of their choice. This year, the award was given to Murado Murado, who shared more about his community work with us.

Grant Summary: This project works to offer hands-on employable skills for Indigenous students in the area of STEAM with a focus on AI, 3D Design, and Coding. This opportunity provides direct experience with these technology tools to Indigenous youth who will be able to build the confidence needed to reduce Indigenous inequity in STEAM-related career roles.

Grant Summary: Many of the 4 million Canadians with criminal records face significant barriers to employment due to stigma, despite critical job shortages in many industries. Employment not only offers a sense of agency and belonging but also serves as a crucial protective factor against homelessness, addiction, and recidivism. This project will implement and evaluate a “fair chances” employment pipeline program over an 18-month period.

Type Diabeat-It is dedicated to ensuring Black and People of Colour understand what it means to live with diabetes by offering education and support.
Much of their work revolves around food education, with classes and events about diet and cooking held regularly in community spaces. In 2024, they made significant progress on their Harvest Haven project, which tackles food insecurity among the community in London that Type Diabeat-It serves.

In early June 2024, Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in London took their regular school trip to Normandy, France, for the 80th anniversary commemoration of D-Day, a pivotal battle in World War II. The school has a relationship with the Parkwood Institute that allows their students to volunteer for St. Joseph’s Veterans Care Program (VCP) . Students who take this opportunity build relationships with the residents at the VCP, most of whom served in World War II and/or the Korean War, while also learning more about Canada’s military history.

London Community Foundation was proud to support 33 charities and non-profits in London and Middlesex in 2023/2024 to help them adapt to the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding, totalling $1.3 million, helped organizations improve the efficacy, accessibility, and sustainability of the essential community services that they provide.
