An Update on the Strong Together Fund

In response to the tragic and violent act of Islamophobia that occurred on June 6, London Community Foundation seeded the Strong Together Fund with a gift of $10,000 in support of, and in solidarity with, our Muslim community.

Since then, thanks to the unending compassion and generosity of our community, and our friends and neighbours across the country, we’ve raised close to $200,000. Thank you all so much.

We’re working very closely with both the London Muslim Mosque (LMM) and the Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration (MRCSSI) to flow these funds to the areas of greatest need as identified by them – security, advocacy, and mental health supports.

A common thread weaves through all three of these areas, and very much speaks to the core of building a healthy community – safety. In a community built on acceptance and belonging, no person should feel like they’re in physical danger while walking on the street. No person or group should feel like their voices aren’t being heard – like the issues they’re facing don’t matter. And nobody should be left alone while in need of support.

Hate has no place in London and Middlesex County. It is my sincere hope that by working with LMM and MRCSSI, we can help advance and amplify the anti-racism work being done in the area and continue to build a community for everyone.

Because while our individual strength may carry us from minute to minute, or hour to hour, the months, years and decades it takes to foster a welcoming community requires us to be strong together.
