I once described Gerald as a “man for all seasons” because he enjoyed every aspect of life; no matter the weather, climate or condition, he was ready for it all. But when I saw the definition – a man who is ready to cope with any contingency and whose behaviour is always appropriate to every occasion – I couldn’t think of any words more true or befitting of such an incredible man.

Gerald meant so much to so many. He always took the time to appreciate people and foster friendships, and as a result his impact and legacy are multi-faceted and widespread. If you were in Gerald’s company, you knew that you mattered. He was always present, aware and attending to detail. He noticed, from the big things to the small, and he was there for advice, guidance, laughter and loyalty, through the thick and thin of it and forever with that infamous and all-knowing smirk of a smile.

You knew you could count on him for any and every thing. The life that he lived and the love that he shared makes the loss so immense and immeasurable.

It was just days before Christmas when our family received the devastating news of Gerald’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Like all times before, Gerald was strong and steadfast. He committed to fight this disease with all that he had and all that he knew. To the end, Gerald again proved the strength of his character, the integrity of his being, the positivity of his spirit and the depth of his love. He wanted to stay; he had so much to share, so much to do and so much left undone.

With the support of your generous donations, and in partnership with London Community Foundation, today and together we will continue to share Gerald’s vision, values and commitment to community. As a leader in the business sector, mentor in the education field and coach in youth athletics, Gerald generously gave of his time, talent and expertise. These are the gifts we would like to live on, in Gerald’s name and memory, to provide opportunities for continued education, integrity through athletics and empowerment through mentorship programs. His ideals are alive in us.
