Judge Maurice Genest

Maurice Genest (1930-2006) was a Judge of the Ontario Court of Justice for 27 years. He was passionate about his work in Family Court, believing strongly in the integrity of the bench. He was equally committed to serving the people of his community with compassion and empathy. This was a man who cared immensely for the children and families of his community.

In the early 1970s, recognizing a pressing need, Maurice lent his boundless energy and enthusiasm to the establishment of the London Family Court Clinic. Four decades later, the clinic has grown from two staff members offering a single service to 25 staff members and 13 different service areas.

Maurice’s commitment to the London Family Court Clinic lives on through his endowment fund. Every year since 1996, the Judge Maurice Genest Children and Youth Fund has granted to the clinic, helping children and families connected to the justice system with expenses such as college application fees, YMCA memberships and the fees to obtain a copy of a birth certificate – providing relief, opportunity and encouragement to young people going through difficult times.
