J. Allyn Taylor Community Service Award to be presented at Youth Volunteer Appreciation Event
April 8th 2009 – the London Community Foundation (LCF) congratulates Brianna Billing, the 2009 Recipient of the J. Allyn Taylor Community Service Award.
The award will be presented at the Youth Volunteer Appreciation Event on Thursday, April 23rd at the Civic Gardens Complex, 645 Springbank Drive from 6:40 – 9:00 pm. This event, which will include youth being honoured from throughout London, is part of National Youth Week and hosted by the London Youth Council & Pillar Nonprofit Network.
Brianna was nominated by Cathy De Vries, Co-ordinator of Youth Services at the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre. De Vries describes Brianna as “a genuine leader” and “a mentor for the youth”. She is also an “advocate for youth as she sits on the South London Neigbhourhood Resource Centre Board of Directors.”
De Vries summarizes Brianna’s outstanding qualities as follows: “Brianna Billing has been an instrumental and valuable youth participant, active volunteer and youth mentor for the South London community. She always finds time to encourage those around her and her electrifying spirit affects everyone she meets.”
About The J. Allyn Taylor Community Service Award: The J. Allyn Taylor Community Service Award recognizes a high school student in grade nine, ten or eleven who has worked to make his or her neighbourhood a better place.
The award recipient receives a certificate accompanied by a $1000 grant, with $500 being awarded to the recipient’s neighbourhood resource centre or charity of choice, and $500 awarded to a post-secondary institution in Canada for the recipient’s education.
