Local Community Foundation Donors Give Funding Boost to Downtown Mural Project

Aug. 01, 2013

Chris Bowden(London, ON) July 31, 2013- London Community Foundation donors Lina & Chris Bowden give Artfusion’s giant Dundas St. mural project a funding boost with a $5,000 grant from the Bowden Family Fund.

Dedicated to London’s core, Chris Bowden is passionate about the London community. This passion is what motivated him and his wife, Lina to make a generous grant to Ryan Mahy’s latest Artfusion project; a giant mural on Dundas St. This mural will tell the story of the late London artist Stephen Watson. Paying tribute to his passion for environment, the giant mural of his work, “Octopus Garden 2,” will forever remind our community of his contribution to the arts in London.

An active supporter of the local arts community, Chris Bowden believes that art has the power to bring people together. However, community art cannot happen without money. That is why there was no doubt in his mind that he and Lina had made the right decision when they decided to help fund this project. Not only will the Bowdens help make downtown London more aesthetically pleasing, but they are supporting a grassroots project that will have a positive impact on the community on multiple levels.

Although Chris is a strong supporter of the arts in London, what really inspired him and Lina to donate to this project is Ryan’s dedication and passion to the community.

Ryan’s work inspires youth to follow their dreams and accomplish things that they may have never thought to be possible. Seeing what Ryan has done encourages youth to see that success is possible with hard work,” says Chris.

A volunteer with St. Leonard’s Community Service, Ryan works with young offenders helping them get back on their feet, creating positive change in their lives. He will be engaging some of the youth in the mural project, helping them build self-esteem as they work as part of a team, set goals, and watch themselves accomplish something they will never forget.

They will always be able to walk by the mural and feel a sense of pride and ownership. The mural will always be a part of them,” says Ryan.

Admiring the work Ryan does and his passion for community, the Bowden’s hope is that others in the community will also come to appreciate and recognize the work Ryan does.
