Jan. 26, 2016

Ashley DickeyThe Vital People Award honours individuals in Nonprofit organizations who have a passion for professional growth and demonstrate leadership in the community. The Award provides the recipient with up to $2,000 to support training and professional development.

Ashley Dickey, Program Director of Brio Music London was one of the 2015 recipients. With the funding from the Vital People Award, Ashley will attend three courses: Volunteer Management, Event Management and Public Relations / Communications for Not for Profits. These will count towards her certificate in Not for Profit Management through Western Continuing Studies.

Brio Music London will benefit immensely from Ashley attending these courses. She has been very successful at planning events and managing volunteers, but it has been a "learning as you go" experience for her. Ashley will have the opportunity to gain the background knowledge applicable to these components of her job to become a more confident manager.

Ashley's role at Brio is multi-faceted. She is in charge of planning all events for Brio, which includes two fundraising recitals per year (one at Christmas and one in June). She is also in charge of planning our annual fundraiser "Shop Till You Drop". Ashley looks after teacher recruitment and program development, having recently completed the development of Brio's own music curriculum. She also looks after Brio's payroll and accounting. Volunteer management is also front and center in her daily role, having to coordinate ten volunteers from the University of Western Ontario.

One of my career/leadership goals is to become more confident in the skills I have in order to lead a successful not-for-profit in a competitive area,” says Ashley. Brio Music London is an excellent program and offers so much to our students! These classes will give me the tools to help it grow!”
