Nadine Reeves ChildreachWith her Vital People grant, Nadine will further her potential by seeking formal education in communications and public relations, building credibility and professionalism as a leader amongst her colleagues and community.

A lifelong advocate for children and families in poverty, Nadine Reeves belongs to the London Homelessness Outreach Network, is a member of the City’s Poverty Committee, and helps organize the monthly City Symposium events.

By day, Nadine is an administrative assistant at Childreach, a multi-service charity serving young children, parents and professionals across the City of London and from the surrounding counties.

For the 7 plus years she has been working at Childreach, she has provided administrative support to the executive director and clerical support to the leadership team in addition to managing the business office.  She organizes fundraisers, initiates and maintains important partnerships, and makes improvements affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of various office procedures.

During her tenure, she has discovered her natural ability for writing, public relations and communications.

It was Nadine who developed an outreach strategy incorporating social media to cultivate a large and supportive online community; Nadine who pushed for program resources to be available as downloads, making it easier for parents and caregivers to access Childreach parenting and child development resources; and Nadine who arranged to house community partners’ family support programs in Childreach.

With her Vital People grant from the Community Foundation, Nadine plans to obtain a professional certificate in Communication and Public Relations from Continuing Studies at the University of Western Ontario.

I believe that by building a community that cares, no one will be left in the margins suffering.  We live in a community that is rich with resources, supports and skills.  The challenges are making people aware of the shortcomings in the current system, the misconceptions about people living in poverty, and the importance of helping others and putting actions to words.  My goals are to broaden minds, spread kindness and lift people up.  I believe that education is less expensive than ignorance.
