2017 Ivey Unsung Heroes Award

Nov. 20, 2017

The Ivey Unsung Heroes Award recognizes a volunteer who has strengthened the community in London or Middlesex County. The award recipient will recieve a $2,000 grant to be donated to a charity of his/her choice.

Gabor Sass

The 2017 recipient of the Ivey Unsung Heroes Award is Gabor Sass! Gabor has spent many years working to improve London’s food security in practical ways. He is passionate about creating local food systems and empowering individuals to produce and process their own food. In 2015, he started a local food forest, going door-to-door to solicit his neighbours’ participation. As a group, they planted trees, shrubs and edible plants -  a community project that brings everyone together.

Gabor sees everyone as responsible for making a more sustainable world and he leads by example. He is a strong believer that policy follows action and it is up to Londoners to demonstrate where they see the food future going for London.

Congratulations, Gabor!

Gabor's grant of $2,000 will be donated to Growing Chefs! Ontario.
