Dave Richards Memorial Award Fund
Jun. 06, 2011
Dave Richards believed in second chances.
As a teacher and coach, Dave’s involvement and genuine caring helped many students turn their lives around. Known for his devotion and belief in his students, he was a much loved teacher at Clarke Road Secondary School.
Dave was a dedicated husband and father and provided optimism to his family in even the toughest of times. His friends remember him as a supportive friend who was always willing to lend a hand. Sadly, after just a six month battle with esophageal cancer, Dave passed away on June 14, 2010 at the age of 45.
To honour Dave’s memory, his co-workers and Dave’s wife, Valerie Richards, established the Dave Richards Memorial Award, a donor-designated fund at the London Community Foundation. The award will recognize a Clarke Road Secondary School graduating student who has overcome adversity and is ideally continuing in a technical trade career. The recipient will receive a scholarship towards his/her post secondary education.
The Dave Richards Memorial Award Fund will ensure Dave’s gift - to inspire and enrich others through second chances - will continue long into the future. London Community Foundation is proud to be part of this legacy.
