The Daily Bread Endowment Fund
Sep. 30, 2009
Each month, The Daily Bread program at St. Paul's Cathedral provides food, support, power/gas, clothing and community to approximately 800 families.
Each day, up to 200 individuals receive a hot meal and a few hours of fellowship in the Fellowship Centre. These programs are the saving grace of those who attend and many have come back to offer their thanks once their lives have allowed them to regain independence. At Daily Bread, people are recognized as human beings loved by God. They are asked about their personal needs, preferences and history to truly understand them.
Programs are running year to year on the generosity of others - donations of food and cash.
In 2008, the Daily Bread board opened a registered charity endowment fund at London Community Foundation as one way to grow a capital base from which to draw income each year to support their work.”
Donors can make donations at any time by cheque, tax effectively with stock, through insurance policies and bequests directed to Daily Bread care of London Community Foundation, and know that these donations will be secure in perpetuity. The income earned on all donations will flow through to The Daily Bread.
The endowment must reach $100,000 before any income is able to be drawn. As an incentive to give, the Daily Bread has started a Founders program for any person or organization that chooses to donate $5,000 or more to the Daily Bread Endowment Fund. The first Founders gift was a $6,000 gift from the Don Hayman Memorial Fund received from Church of the Transfiguration in memory of the life and work of Mr. Don Hayman.
