Connie Cunningham Memorial Bursary Fund
Sep. 30, 2009
How can we create a lasting tribute to a friend who has passed away? What would be a fitting tribute to life spent giving so much to the community? That is exactly what the friends of Connie Cunningham were struggling with before they decided to establish a donor designated memorial fund at London Community Foundation.
Connie Cunningham was a community activist and volunteer committed to issues such as community involvement, urban planning, and housing. Over two decades she served on the board of several organizations, including Homes Unlimited (London) Inc.
In 1998, Connie received the Mary Campbell Award from Information London. This award honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the London community by improving access to city services, providing equality of opportunity and creating a more informed community.
"Connie's most outstanding qualities were infectious enthusiam and boundless energy," says Sally Robinson, long-time friend and fellow volunteer. "In later years, she became very personally involved in housing issues and this memorial fund is a very fitting tribute to her life."
Homes Unlimited and Arnsby Property Management are the major donors to the fund. The fund provides a bursary towards tuition at a post-secondary school for a tenant or child of a tenant of Homes Unlimited or Odell Jalna Residence.
